The National Grand Theatre is located in central Beijing to the west of Tian An Mien Square. Patterns of Chinese space as well as forms of traditional theatrical space were used as a creative point of departure. The form of the complex acknowledges the layout of the traditional chinese opera pavilion in the forbidden city.
