Van Nuys Airport/ Present

SPF:a is working with Maguire Properties to establish a brand and architectural footprint for its flagship private airport hangar facility at the Van Nuys Airport in California (the busiest general aviation airport in the country). Thirteen hangars of approximately 12,000 SF each will provide runway-close storage for up to 24 large private aircraft. The site will feature a Fixed Base of Operations which will contain pilot’s lounge and other creature comforts for crews and passengers between flights. The Van Nuys facility will be the first of several that the company plans to roll out at regional airports nationwide.

SPF:a is charged with creating an identity scheme for these large prefab build-
ings that will stand out in the sea of metal sheds common to this environment. Large scale deep cuts in the fabric of the building combined with graphics reminiscent of earth views from the sky will single these buildings out as something special. Working closely with manufacturers, SPF:a was able to create a highly customized look while working within the confines of this efficient industrial building system. Additionally, the master plan strategy will allow for maximum flexibility necessitated by the evolving business plans in this sector.
