MODAA
SPF:a Offices / MODAA Lofts / Cafe

Culver City, California 2005

MODAA is a full city block’s worth of mixed use development, housing a world-class architectural studio, 2,200 SF art museum, a street side café, and six live/work artist lofts. A prophetic take on new urbanism, the project sits on the edge of Culver City’s burgeoning revival, just to the east of Main street on a major transportation artery. The new building, with its sculptural façade and its culturally stimulating mixed-use program, amplifies the enthusiasm and motion of the city's growth. The site is a virtual crossroads of cultural and economic diversity, pushing the boundaries of art and culture into the melting pot of change, bidding a handshake from one side to the other. Physical aspects of the building explore the variation, movement, velocity and tempo of the city on all scales, using materials, textures, and variations that stimulate and delight the imagination. The façade was deemed “architecture as art” by the City’s Cultural Affairs Division.
