New LA Home Designs, Reimagined By Fire

Bloomberg features Anoka House as rebuilding begins in the Pacific Palisades and Altadena highlighting its resilient architecture and construction techniques aimed at outwitting future disaster.

"For the replacement home, Zoltan Pali and his team at SPF: architects created a simple rectangle of wood and brick — the original home’s brick chimney and fireplace was the only part of the structure to survive the blaze. That layout avoids many fire risks like eaves, vents and pitched roofs and includes a west-facing wall of sliding glass doors shaded by a steel overhang. Around the home, a seven-foot perimeter of brick pavers provides space from combustible plants and significant defensible space. Submitted under the city’s expedited fire permitting plan, it was OK’d in a month and should begin construction in 2026..."
